Under new amendments to the UAE’s foster care law, also non-Emirati residents can now foster children in the UAE. It marks a big change from the previous legal state when only Muslim Emirati families and single Emirati women could do so.
Hence, the new law allows any married couple over the age of 25 to foster a child, regardless of nationality or religion. Moreover, any single women who are at least 30 years old can apply to become the foster parent.
The eligibility criteria include having no prior criminal convictions, no infectious diseases or psychological disorders that could put a child at risk, the ability to financially support a child and no change a child’s official identity or religion.
